This Thanksgiving, I discovered more about about Mark's Mayflower ancestors.
In November 2020 it will be 400 years since the landing of
the pilgrims in 1620.
Landing in Plymouth, MA in 1620 |
Mark's relatives who stepped on shore after their 63 day trip
in the tiny Mayflower included:
John Alden was a cooper (barrel maker). |
John Alden (who married Priscilla Mullins). John was Mark's 10th great uncle.
Our children are 14th
generation and our grandchildren are the 15th generation direct descendants
of John Alden.
William Mullins, his wife, Alice, with their children
Priscilla and Joseph.
William and
Alice would be Mark's 11th great uncle and aunt.
William,
Alice, and Joseph all died that first winter.
Priscilla Mullins was the daughter of a shoemaker. Her father, mother, and brother all died the first winter. |
Priscilla Mullins the
only survivor of the Mullins family, would be Mark's
10th great aunt.
This is the will of William Mullins who died Feb 21, apparently on-board the Mayflower. |
Edward Winslow was Mark's 1st cousin 10x
removed.
John and Priscilla probably have the largest number of descendants of any Mayflower passenger. Robert D. Hales, Marion D. Romney and Truman O. Angell
were descendants of Priscilla Mullins. Also John Quincy Adams and Henry Wadsworth Longfellow are among John and Priscilla's descendants. (Longfellow wrote a poem, "the Courship of Myles Standish" which is a classic but has little factual basis.)

I have discovered so many interesting things about this brave, religious people who left England and Leiden to come to America in search of religious freedom.
Brewster giving the blessing over the Thanksgiving Feast. |
These two broadsides were published a the time of John Alden's death. |
Mayflower II--a replica. When our family went to Plimouth Planation we also toured this ship. |
A mortar and pestle that once belonged to Edward Winslow and is on display at the Pilgrim Hall Museum in Plymouth. |
D&C 59:21 comes to mind:
And in nothing doth man offend God, or against none is his wrath kindled, save those who confess not his hand in all things, and obey not his commandments.
